Williams Homers in 9th to Give Mammoths Seventh Straight Win
UTICA, Mich. – Daniel Williams homered in the top of the ninth inning and right-handed pitcher Matt Cronin tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out four, to lead the Westside Woolly Mammoths (10-11) to a 1-0 win over the Utica Unicorns (13-9) on Thursday night in front of an animated crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.
Williams has two game-winning RBIs in two of the last three Mammoth wins. RHP Thomas Muratore tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and LHP Jake Davis retired both batters he faced to earn his second save of the season.
RHP Spencer Stockton was brilliant for the Unicorns, working 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowed just four hits. RHP Sam Cottingham-Beard allowed just the one hit by Williams over 2.0 innings.
The Unicorns will take on the Eastside Diamond Hoppers tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. and fans can enjoy a Fireworks Spectacular immediately following the game.
