Diamond Hoppers Rally Late to Walk Off Beavers, 4-3

UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (10-24) scored three runs over the final two innings, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth, to rally past the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (17-16), 4-3, Friday night at UWM Field. 

Eastside broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when David Kedrow launched a solo home run, his second of the season, to give the Diamond Hoppers a 1-0 advantage. Kedrow finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. 

On the mound, Dante Zamudio delivered six scoreless innings for Eastside. He allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out three, keeping Birmingham off the board through the first six frames. 

The Beavers responded in a big way in the seventh. With two runners aboard, Chase Rodriguez connected on a three-run home run to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 Birmingham lead. Rodriguez’s homer was his third of the season and accounted for all three of the Beavers’ runs. 

Eastside answered in the bottom of the eighth. Bailey Martin drove in a run before Yan Fernandez brought home another, tying the game at 3-3 and setting the stage for a dramatic ninth inning. 

Kedrow started the bottom of the ninth with a single, and the Diamond Hoppers loaded the bases with nobody out. Kevon Jackson then delivered the winning run with a sacrifice fly, bringing Kedrow home and completing the 4-3 walk-off victory. 

Alek Elges earned the win after working the final three innings for Eastside, while the Diamond Hoppers’ pitching staff held Birmingham to three runs despite the Beavers collecting nine hits. 

The Diamond Hoppers finished with four runs on four hits, while Birmingham recorded three runs on nine hits.
