Beavers Shut Out Unicorns, 4-0
UTICA, Mich. – Left-handed pitcher Kevin Matthews threw 5.2 scoreless innings, scattering three hits and struck out six, while Robb Paller slammed a two-run home run to lead the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (16-13) past the Utica Unicorns (14-17), 4-0, Thursday on Zombie Night at Jimmy John’s Field.
Hunter Wood scored a run and earned two walks, finishing the game 1-for-2 for the Beavers. RHP Deshorn Lake and RHP Brian Heldman combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief and struck out five.
Dan Ward led all offensive players tonight, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, while teammate Daniel Williams added a 2-for-4 performance for the Unicorns.
The Beavers have now won four straight games, and are 6-1 over their last seven ballgames.
